A Brief History of World Bee Day
World Bee Day, celebrated annually on May 20th, was established by the United Nations in 2017 to raise awareness about the importance of bees and other pollinators. The day serves as a reminder of the critical role bees play in our ecosystems, supporting biodiversity and food production.

A Collaborative Celebration on the North Shore
During the week of May 20, 2026, we partnered with Kokua Farm and Hanai Hives to celebrate World Bee Day against the stunning backdrop of Hawaii’s North Shore. This collaboration emphasized the importance of local farming and sustainable practices while fostering a love for beekeeping within our community.

Big Island Celebration
In addition to our festivities on the North Shore, we enjoyed a special visit to the Big Island for their World Bee Day celebration. This event showcased the vibrant local beekeeping culture, offering participants an immersive experience in Hawaii’s unique apiculture practices.

Teaching the Next Generation
A major focus of our event was to educate and inspire the next generation of beekeepers. We featured hands-on activities designed to engage young minds and instill a passion for beekeeping. Participants learned about hive management, bee biology, and the vital role these creatures play in our ecosystem.

Exploring Amazing Hawaiian Flora
Hawaii’s diverse flora is a paradise for bees, offering an array of native plants that are not only beautiful but also crucial for their survival. Our activities included guided tours of local gardens, where participants experienced firsthand the amazing flora that supports our bee populations.

Q&A Session with Dr. Petrusia Kotlar

We were honored to host Dr. Petrusia Kotlar, DC, past VP and a member of the American Apitherapy Society, as well as a member of the International Federation of Apitherapy. Dr. Kotlar led a Q&A session, sharing insights from her work, including the promotion of the Clinical Safety Manual on Apitherapy. This was a unique opportunity for participants to ask questions and learn more about the therapeutic benefits of bees and their products.
Join us as we reflect on a day filled with celebration, education, and community bonding, honoring these essential pollinators and promoting a sustainable future for beekeeping in Hawaii. Together, we created a buzz that resonated well beyond World Bee Day!
