Here’s the first addition to our ethnonutrition recipes.

Honeycake or Medivnik

Enjoy this delicious Ukrainian tradition. Enjoy the aroma!

Makes 1 loaf, 4 servings


  • 2 cups Pure Honey
  • 2 cups Unbleached Flour
  • 3 Fresh Eggs
  • 1/4 Tsp. Baking Soda
  • 1/4 Tsp. Vanilla
  • 1/4 Tsp. Cinnamon


  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Beat eggs and add honey and vanilla.
  3. Whisk in flour, baking soda, and cinnamon.
  4. Knead mixture into dough and transfer to lightly greased loaf pan.
  5. Bake on center rack for about 1 hour or when toothpick comes clean when inserted in the center.
